A Brief History

In 1995, Jennifer Garrett, a renowned artist, musician and theatre performer, founded the Atikokan Creations Theatre. (A.C.T.) Although A.C.T. did not have a permanent residence, it successfully held several theatre arts workshops, delighting audiences with performances including: “Two Rooms of Grace”, “Signe’s Lost Colors”, “Zak and the Magic Blue Stone”, by Canadian playwright Eleanor Albanese, “The True Spirit of Silver Inlet” by Lila Cano and “Pandora Puppets” which was scripted by local participants. The positive feedback received from local residents and parents clearly indicated a desire by the community to further develop arts programs. In addition, Cabarets showcasing local talent music and literature were also performed.

Based on the success of A.C.T. the concept of an Intergenerational Centre for all ages was born. This Centre will increase the programs provided by A.C.T., utilizing performing arts, visual arts, music, dance/movement, young children’s programs, yoga, woodworking, metalwork, sculpturing, photography, lifeskills classes, culinary arts, and a organic community garden. Our plans also include a youth drop-in facility, a skate boarding facility, and a gift shop/gallery to showcase and sell local artwork, crafts, woodworking and sculpture.
